MAXIMA

The MAXIMA project will participate in the International Workshop on Electro-Mobility: Challenges & Opportunities, taking place on 12 October 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00, at the Amphi Migeon, Polytech Lille.

Representing the project, Prof. Stéphane Clénet, MAXIMA Coordinator at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology and researcher at the Laboratory of Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics (L2EP), will contribute to the discussions on the technological, industrial and sustainability challenges shaping the future of electric mobility.

A forum for electric mobility

The workshop will bring together stakeholders working across the e-mobility ecosystem to examine the opportunities and barriers associated with the ongoing transition towards electrified transport. The programme will provide a forum for exchange between academia, industry and innovation actors around key issues including electric-machine design, vehicle electrification, manufacturing, energy efficiency, resource use and the environmental performance of future mobility solutions.

Held at Polytech Lille, one of the engineering schools of the University of Lille, the event offers an opportunity to connect research and industrial perspectives in a region with strong expertise in electrical engineering, energy and advanced manufacturing.

MAXIMA’s contribution

The project addresses a central challenge for the large-scale electrification of vehicles: delivering electric motors that combine high performance and power density with competitive cost, manufacturability, reduced reliance on critical raw materials and improved recyclability. MAXIMA is developing and validating design methods, digital tools and prototype solutions that consider electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal performance alongside environmental requirements from the earliest stages of product development.

Axial-flux motor technology can offer important performance advantages, but its wider deployment depends on overcoming barriers related to cost-effective production, material choices and scalable manufacturing. These are precisely among the challenges that MAXIMA is working to address through a multidisciplinary approach spanning motor architecture, materials, manufacturing processes, multiphysics modelling and life-cycle considerations.

About Stéphane Clénet

Prof. Stéphane Clénet is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology in Lille and a researcher at L2EP. His expertise includes computational electromagnetics and the design and analysis of electrical devices. As MAXIMA Coordinator, he leads the project’s work towards an adaptable, high-performance and environmentally responsible axial-flux motor solution for the automotive sector.

MAXIMA looks forward to contributing its experience and results to this international exchange, helping advance the discussion on electric-mobility solutions that are not only high-performing, but also affordable, manufacturable and sustainable.
